Corvette for 1993 marked its 40th Anniversary with a special appearance package that included an exclusive "Ruby Red" exterior and interior with color-keyed wheel centers, headrest embroidery and bright emblems on the hood, deck and side-gills.
This anniversary package was optional equipment on all models.
The ZR-1's 5.7-liter LT5 V-8 was upgraded this year and featured significant power and torque increases.
Improved air flow from cylinder head and valve train refinements boosted its rating from 375 hp to 405 hp!
The 1993 Corvette also introduced GM's first Passive Keyless Entry system whereby simply leaving or approaching the Corvette automatically unlocked or locked the appropriate doors.
The 1993 Corvette was also the first North American automobile to use recycled sheet-molded-compound body panels.
The ZR-1 again used a six-speed transaxle.
Standard Corvette models were again powered by the 5.7-liter LT1 V-8 connected to a four-speed overdrive automatic or optional six-speed manual transmission.

All Corvette convertibles except those with the Z25 40th Anniversary Package could be ordered with a Beige, Black, or White cloth top.
The 40th Anniversary rag-tops came only with an exclusive Ruby Red cloth top.
Black cloth upholstery was also standard.

The serial number [Vehicle Identification Number -- VIN] was stamped on a plate on the inner vertical surface of the left windshield pillar visible through the windshield.

Corvette engines have the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the block just ahead of the cylinder head on the right-hand side combined with a three-letter engine code suffix
Also cast into the top rear of the block is a four-symbol code indicating when the engine was built
- The first letter of the date code shows the month the block was cast
- The one or two numbers shows the month
- The last digit shows the year

HISTORICAL NOTES

Calendar-year sales totaled 20,487 Corvettes.
Model-year production totaled 21,590.
Even Corvettes without the optional RPO Z25 40th Anniversary package had the special anniversary-style embroided headrests.
For the 1993 model year improvements in the LT5 engine's cylinder head and valve train included "blending" the valve heads and creating three-angle valve inserts, plus the use of a sleeve spacer to help maintain port alignment of the injector manifold.
These added up to a 30-hp increase and higher torque rating.
In addition, the LTS was now equipped with four-bolt main bearings, platinum-tipped spark plugs and an electrical linear exhaust gas recirculating (EGR) system.
