Keep on Truckin’: 5 Monster Truck Facts That Might Surprise You

Monster trucks are naturally exciting and thrilling to be around. They’re big, they’re loud, and they’re decked out with the coolest equipment available.

If you’re like most people, though, you’re knowledge of monster trucks kind of stops there. There are a lot of monster truck facts that will blow your mind, and we’re here to fill you in on a few really interesting points.

Let’s get started:

1. Massive Damage Costs

It might surprise you to know that monster trucks incur a whole lot of damage each time they get out into the pit. Our monster cars and trucks at home typically cost around the same amount as the damages that each truck gets per rally.

When jumping and contact is involved in the rally, most trucks have to take on about $10,000 of damages to be repaired in the following few days.

2. There Are Multiples

Famous trucks like Gravedigger have to make a lot of appearances. People come to the shows to see the trucks they know, and this is made possible by the fact that most truck characters have multiple trucks that they use.

That way, there can be a Gravedigger in Houston and a Gravedigger in Minneapolis at the same time. These trucks are identical, with all of the same features and paint jobs.

3. Rescue Capabilities

It might interest you to know that monster trucks aren’t only used for entertainment.

In cases where flooding is causing danger to citizens, monster trucks have been used to offer relief. They’re particularly effective because of how high the body sits in relation to the wheels. This allows the trucks to travel safely through floodwater and save people who are in danger.

4. They’re Pretty Costly

Not only are the damages and maintenance of a monster truck extremely expensive, but they’re also pretty costly to get your hands on in the first place.

If you’re considering purchasing a monster truck of your own, keep in mind that they typically run around $250,000 to buy. There are definitely ways to create your own that would be less costly, but a proper truck is always going to run you upwards of $100,000.

5. Each Rally Is an Impressive Feat

We’re not just talking about how awesome the trucks are when they roll out.

Every time a monster truck rally rolls through your town, something like 70 truckloads of dirt has to be hauled into the arena. Then, the tracks are built with jumps, pathways, and room for the extra activities that might take place.

After that, all of that dirt needs to be hauled out and brought to the next town.
