The Type 61 was similar to the Type 59
of 1920-21, with the following exceptions:
-
Bodies
-
This model had a higher radiator and the shoulders of
hood were raised.
-
It had a lower center of gravity with same ground
clearance.
-
The hood was made of Aluminum.
-
There were exterior door handles on all models except
the front doors of the Limousine.
-
The closed cars had a soft-type roof construction and
leather covered, fixed visor.
-
The five passenger Sedan and Phaeton sported a trunk
rack, vertical bars on rear of body, and running board
kick plates.
-
The headlights were mounted by a single post rather
than fork.
-
The shield shaped bead on the headlight door had
straight sides rather than curved.
-
Optional nickel plated lights and radiator shell were
offered.
-
The horn was moved under hood.
-
The new steering wheel had no hinge.
-
The windshield cleaner and rearview mirror were
standard equipment.
-
There were several new models: a two-passenger Coupe
and Town Brougham (which had been dropped in 1920-21,
but now revived), a five-passenger Coupe, and a Landau
Sedan (1923).
-
The 1923 Victoria had roomier interior and doors that
hinged at the front.
-
Chassis
-
Smaller wheels were used to give a lower center of
gravity.
-
All bodies were mounted on the 132 in. wheelbase.
-
Self lubricating bushings were featured at many points
in the brake and clutch linkage.
-
New, piston-type grease cups were featured at other
lube points.
-
Drive Line
-
The rear axle housing was redesigned to maintain road
clearance with smaller wheels.
-
The final drive ratios were now 4.50:1, 4.91:1, and
4.15:1 (special).
-
A transmission lock was also provided.
-
Engine
-
The camshaft was drilled to provide internal oil
passage and to replace the oil tube.
-
A two-pole generator replaced the four-pole.

Note: Introductory prices were much
the same as for Type 59. In January, 1922 came a drastic
price reduction, followed by a smaller reduction in December,
1922. These were the first price reductions for Cadillac and
followed an industry trend. Increased production schedules,
higher efficiency in the new manufacturing facilities, and
economic pressures combined to make the reductions possible
as well as necessary.
