The Eldorado series returned with the "base" coupe and Eldorado Touring Coupe (ETC), each powered by the Northstar V-8 and 4T80-E combination as in the previous year.

• New standard features included
  • Magnasteer (already standard on the ETC).
  • hydraulic shocks with higher damping rate
  • new lower control arm design to better absorb cornering load.
  • one-inch larger front brake discs
  • trunk storage dividers
  • improved headliner and acoustic refinements
  • more user friendly climate control readouts.
• All 1997 Eldos were manufactured with an analog gauge cluster, full center console and dual zone climate control as standard fare.
• The Eldo coupe received a new personalization programmable package that included auto door locks exterior lighting, activation verification and battery storage
• The ETC added road texture detection to aid anti-lock braking effectiveness.
• StabiliTrak system to help the driver maintain control on slippery surfaces, and 11 additional driver information center (DC) messages, including: headlamps suggested, ice possible (outside temperature of 36 degrees or lower) and check fuel gauge.
• The ETC also received a new personalization programmable package that included
  • choice of memory recall with remote keyless entry
  • key in ignition or memory switches
  • HVAC settings
  • radio preset settings
  • battery storage mode
  • perimeter lighting
  • activation verification
  • auto door lock
• Also new to the ETC was a memory package that featured eight-way seat adjustments and exit, outside rearview mirror adjustments and lumbar support positions.
• Eldos offered the OnStar communication system as optional equipment.
