L-head engine
An engine having both valves in the block and on the same side of the
Cylinder. The arrangement of the valves in the block
and the Combustion chamber forms an L
shape. This type of valve train was used in the early years of automotive
engineering and is no longer found (with some minor exceptions) in modern
engines. Compare F-head engine where one valve
is in the head and the other is in the block; and
I-head engine where both valves are in the head
and none in the block. Also called side-valve engine.
