A brand new Seville rode the same new platform as Eldorado -- 17 inches shorter and 375 pounds lighter than before. Gone was the striking razor-edge styling of 1980-85, replaced by a body not much different from Eldorado's, or from other GM vehicles. Standard engine was the Cadillac 4.1 liter V-8, hooked to four-speed overdrive automatic transaxle. Seville's vertical grille had a fine-mesh crosshatch pattern. Clear rear lenses of the horizontal side marker lamps were angled to match wheel openings. Very wide, clear parking/signal lamps were inset into the bumper area.
The Clearcoat finish had a new (standard) two-tone paint treatment. New front bucket seats were upholstered with Royal Prima cloth and Sierra Grain leather seating areas. The front console included a fold-down armrest and storage compartments, while American walnut highlighted the instrument panel, console and steering wheel. Optional: a cellular phone with removable handset in locking storage compartment, and hidden mike between the sun visors. A "driver information center" in the digital instrument cluster displayed electronic readouts of outside temperature, fuel economy and engine data, including a tachometer reading. Retained Accessory Power allowed many accessories to remain operative up to 10 minutes after shutting off the ignition (or until a door was opened).
Standard equipment included
Seville's special-edition Elegante was offered again, carrying wire wheel covers and displaying a unique mid-tone paint scheme. The package included
American walnut wood plates trimmed the doors. Elegante was upholstered in Mayfair cloth with Sierra Grain leather seating areas, with a package price tag of $3595 and up.
